Department History

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Industries Techniques at Mosul Polytechnic College was established in 1979. The department admits graduates from the high school scientific branch as well as vocational school graduates. The duration of study is two academic calendar years—equivalent to three regular academic years—after which graduates are awarded a Technical Diploma.

The top 20% of graduates who pass in the first examination attempt are eligible to pursue their university education in Chemical Engineering or equivalent fields (such as Technical Engineering, Fuel and Energy Engineering, or Oil Refining Engineering) to obtain a Bachelor’s degree. The majority of the teaching faculty specialize in Chemical Engineering and Chemical Sciences.

The department supplies both the public and private industrial sectors with mid-level technical personnel trained in operating industrial units. Among the department’s activities is the manufacturing of certain chemical products, including detergents (such as dishwashing liquid, bleach, and soap), distilled water, battery acid, and candles. Additionally, the department participates in the advisory bureau by conducting laboratory tests for various government entities and mixed-sector companies, as well as providing technical engineering consultations.

The department’s staff constantly strive to develop its laboratories by acquiring modern laboratory equipment to keep pace with the ongoing scientific advancements across all fields.
