Department History
The Department of Civil Techniques at the Mosul Polytechnic College is one of the deeply-rooted technological departments that has kept pace with the evolution of technical education in Iraq:
1. Foundation and Beginnings
Established in 1976: The Technical Institute in Mosul was founded in 1976 and was known at the time as the “Technical Institute” (Al-Ma’had Al-Fanni).
Core Technological Department: The department began as part of the core technological departments aimed at preparing mid-level technical personnel capable of executing construction and engineering projects in the northern region.
2. Structural Development
Curriculum Evolution: The department has gone through numerous stages of development in its curricula and sub-specializations to meet the shifting demands of the labor market.
Vital Specializations: Throughout its history, the department has encompassed vital fields such as:
Building and Construction Branch: Focusing on building execution and concrete works.
Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) Branch: Which later evolved to integrate advanced computer software.
3. Administrative Affiliation
Early Alignment: Upon its founding, the department and the institute were affiliated with the Foundation of Technical Institutes, and subsequently the Foundation of Technical Education.
Northern Technical University: Since 2014, following the establishment of the Northern Technical University, the department became an integral part of it. This transition has directly contributed to modernizing laboratories and scientific curricula, keeping pace with the technological revolution in civil engineering.
