Overview of the Workshop
The workshop covered the concept of harmonics and the reasons behind their generation in inverters. It highlighted their negative impacts on the efficiency of electrical grids and power quality, while shedding light on the latest technical solutions used to improve the output waveform and reduce wave distortion.
The workshop also reviewed a future vision aimed at leadership in disseminating applied engineering knowledge to achieve more efficient, sustainable, and distortion-free electrical grids, thereby contributing to the development of Smart & Clean Grids.
Mission
In its core message, the workshop emphasized the importance of understanding the causes and effects of harmful harmonics in inverters, while equipping participants with the necessary scientific and technical knowledge to improve electrical power quality and reduce energy losses.
Objectives
The goals of the workshop spanned several scientific and practical areas, most notably:

Introducing participants to the concept of harmonics and the sources of their generation in inverters.

Explaining how to calculate the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).

Highlighting the negative impact of harmonics on electrical equipment, such as transformer overheating, capacitor degradation, and motor vibration.

Exploring modern methods to mitigate distortion and enhance electrical power quality.
