Educational Objectives
The student should be able to identify and examine congenital deformities, amputations, or structural and neurological conditions that require prosthetic limbs or orthotics.
Knowledge of Materials and Properties: The student should be able to explain the physical and mechanical properties of the materials used (such as carbon fiber, thermoplastics, silicone, and metals) and select the most appropriate material for each case.
The student should be proficient in taking accurate measurements and creating plaster molds (casting) or using 3D scanners for residual limbs or deformities.
The student should be able to efficiently and safely fabricate prosthetic limbs (above-knee, below-knee, and upper extremities) and orthotic braces (for the spine, feet, etc.) using dedicated tools and machinery.
